Full Description

Scope

This standard specifies the test method for surface transfer impedance of shielded power cables and connectors for rail vehicles, of which the applicable frequency is 9 kHz to 30 MHz. This test method is applicable to all kinds of rolling stock as defined in IEC 60050-811, such as high speed trains, locomotives, passenger cars, metros, light rail vehicles, trams, and medium-low speed magnetic levitation trains.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to provide a set of test methods for shielding performance measurement of power cables and connectors, and a description of applicable objects, technical conditions and evaluation indexes used in the test methods. These methods support he fast and effective measurement of surface transfer impedance and can provide accurate references for electromagnetic compatibility designers to evaluate, compare, design and use shielded cables.

Abstract

New IEEE Standard - Active - Draft.Uniform measurement procedures and technology are provided for determining the shielding effectiveness of shielded power cables and connectors for rail vehicles at frequencies from 9 kHz to 30 MHz (which can be extended according to the length of the device under test). The test methods include triaxial method and tube in tube method. In essence, these methods determine the shielding effectiveness by applying specified current and voltage to the screen of the cable and measuring the induced voltage in order to determine the surface transferimpedance.
