Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of micropollutants found in France's raw surface waters, non-point pollutionby pesticides being the main issue, along with endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Concentrations found in the Seine and Marne Rivers are provided, along with a list of EDCs and pharmaceuticals that have been monitored since 2004. A second issue of micropollutants found in the treatment process is presented. Experiments with pilots in the ozonation and granular activated carbon (GAC) treatmentprocesses are presented, and conclusions indicate that: in standard conditions mostpesticides and pharmaceuticalsare removed by ozonation andGAC filtration stages; however, some compounds canbe problematic - low reaction to ozone andpartially removed by GAC filtration; and, byproducts of Atrazine -determine the GAC filter operatinglife. Includes figures.
