ACI SP-188
ACI sponsored the First International Symposium for Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Reinforcement for Reinforced Concrete Structures at the Spring 1993 Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The international research community in attendance agreed to repeat this symposia every second year and rotate it to venues on different continents. The Second International Symposium was held in Ghent, Belgium, in 1995 and the Third International Symposium was in Sapporo, Japan, in 1997. This volume presents the papers of the Fourth International Symposium and represents a significant expansion in the state of knowledge that has occurred in the past 6 years. As in 1993, the five most important topics for FRP reinforcement are:1. FRP material properties2. FRP reinforcement for reinforced concrete structures3. FRP reinforcement for prestressed concrete structures4. Analysis and design5. Application of FRP reinforcementWhile the general topics are the same as 6 years ago, the number of case studies presented in this volume is a marked increase from the first symposium. The economies of FRP and FRP performance in the construction marketplace are becoming more clearly understood and their usage is increasing.
