Full Description

The purpose of this study was to develop a practical measure of a filter's ability to consistently maintain superior levels of pathogen removal during periods of elevated turbidity and particle counts. This paper describes the development of a filtration robustness concept that may allow utilities to plan pilot-scale studies, interpret pilot-scale results, and monitor full-scale data. It also describes a robustness evaluation that may help utilities determine where limited financial resources should be allocated for maximizing treatment improvement. A mathematical index is being developed as a tool for interpreting data from pilot studies or full-scale applications. Robustness will be evaluated by means of pilot-scale experiments seeding C. parvum and aerobic spores to assess pathogen passage from a benchmark treatment system.
