Full Description

The route restructuring trial described in this article was performed to investigate the use of computer software to cost-effectively restructure meter routes. Specifically, the route restructuring trial had three objectives: select a trial site incorporating various types of meters and meter settings, a mixture of urban and rural terrain, and customers of varying economic status; determine the increase in number of meter reads per day per reader after restructuring; and, determine the cost savings. Five suppliers of route restructuring software were interviewed. Software that was selected used time stamp data, had a well-defined customer support system, and had good references. The trial compared two billing cycles, one before and one after the meter routes were restructured. Conclusions of the trial are discussed. Includes 2 references, tables.
