This paper discusses the efforts of the Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU),Treatment Services Division of Colorado Springs, Colorado, to move from reactivemaintenance to program driven maintenance (PDM). PDM is the planning andimplementation of the practices and technology needed to minimize equipment orsystem downtime by maximizing effective maintenance. CSU focused its efforts infive main areas: use of comprehensive work orders through the implementation ofan integrated computerized maintenance management system; formal advanceplanning; use of performance indicators; preventive and predictive maintenanceprogram development; and inventory control.
