Full Description

The concept of reducing water, energy and gas consumption in multi-level buildings by adjusting the operating range of the domestic water boosting pump was developed by the Utility Services Branch with the Region of Ottawa Carleton Water Division, which is responsible for water supply to the City of Ottawa and ten adjacent local municipalities. Water is drawn from the Ottawa River treated and distributed to approximately 700,000 customers. The basic premise is that in most multi-level buildings the booster pump pressure is much greater than required to meet water demands. The existing practice of over pressuring the domestic water supply results in excessive water consumption, high energy requirements to operate the pump and increased maintenance costs for the interanl plumbing system.
