Full Description

This paper describes the City of Sherman, Texas, experience with finding an abundant reliable water source to supply its growing population. Lake Texoma was selected as a source of raw water; however, the high total dissolved solids (TDS) and mineral content of the lake water made it necessary to use demineralization technology. Electrodialysis reversal (EDR) was selected based on its ability to achieve 85% water recovery, its tolerance to barium-sulfate scaling and its tolerance to variations in feedwater quality. Design, operation and maintenance, costs, and concentrate stream disposal are discussed.
