Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the City of Thornton's water supply and the selection of the treatment option of biological denitrification. The project overview includes: pilot testing of three biological processesfor the removal of nitrate as pretreatmentin drinking water; Water Research Foundation Project No. 4202, total project cost - $596K, theTailored Collaboration Program conducted a seven month pilot study;highest nitrate concentrations typicallyduring cold water conditions;influent nitrate spiked to ~10 mg/L NOsub3/sub-N;goal of 80% nitrate removal ( 2 mg/L); and, methanol selected as preferred carbonsource for piloting. Pilot objectives were to: determine process performance in warm andcold water temperatures, specifically nitrate removal; determine design basis for full-scaleimplementation; evaluate startup and ability for intermittentoperation;optimize and evaluate operation; and, investigate effects of fluctuating raw waterconditions. Includes tables.
