Full Description

In Luxembourg, the largest drinking water production plant treating reservoir water withconventional technology including ozonation has been in operation since 1969. Its maximumcapacity is 64,000 msup3/sup/d. After 40 years of operation, the need for both modernizing andextension of capacity to 100,000 msup3/sup/d emerged. Nowadays, due to new developments intechnology and research it is possible to assess the water treatment processes more effectivelywith regard to current and future requirements. Against this background, membrane processescombined with conventional and advanced processes were identified as a potential option, andlong term pilot-scale tests were started in June 2008. Different membrane treatment process schemes were investigated in a one year pilot plant period. Various treatment stepssuch as different pre- and post-treatment steps, various membranes and membrane materialsand also conventional treatment steps were compared and assessed. Includes tables, figures.
