Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a brief overview of transient pressures from unsteady flow. The Water Research Foundation (WRF) Project #4152, "Managing Distribution System Pressures to Protect Water Quality" is presented, specifically the assessment of microbial intrusion risk including: assuming the range of pathogen concentrations in soil; determining intrusion volume, duration, frequency; calculating dilution, mixing, transport; calculating effect of disinfectant residuals; determining daily exposure; and, using dose response model to determine risk of infection. The WRF project also covers the following topics: conducting a utility survey to gauge how utility managers use pressure management to protect water quality; monitoring pressure and water quality continuously for two months, in six locations, in four different water systems; and, developing best practices for managing distribution system pressures. Includes tables, figures.
