Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the MEDINA project, co-funded by the European Commission, that has the objective of developing an integrated approach for membrane-based desalination. Developed within the 6th Framework program, Project Number 036997, and is subtitled, "WP3: Development of Tools for Reverse Osmosis Fouling Characterization and Understanding." Results are presented from a nanofiltration autopsy conducted for the Syndicat Des Eaux d'Ile de France, Mery sur Oise Treatment Plant, France. Topics include: diagram of the Mery sur Oise NF Treatment Plant; RO desalination plant; spiral wound modules; membrane observation; scanning electron microscopy; RO bench scale unit; permeability test with synthetic seawater; isolation protocol of the foulant material; deposits scrapped on membranes; elemental analysis of foulants; ICP analysis; FTIR analysis; flash pyrolysis GC/MS analysis; Mery sur Oise treatment train; thermochemolysis TMAH analysis - fatty acids, aromatic, and semi-quantitative analysis; analysis and quantification of phospholipid fatty acids (PLFA); and lipids analysis. Includes table, figures.
