Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of dezincification. Manifestations in premise plumbing are presented, along with consideration of the brass alloy, effects of water chemistry, and effects of physical factors. Presentation summary and conclusions indicate that: dezincification is re-emerging as a high profile issue in premise plumbing systems; the brass alloy itself plays a major role in the dezincification susceptibility; effects of water chemistry on dezincification in potable water is still not well understood; a variety of physical factors are hypothesized to influence type and extent of dezincification; research tests confirm some of the hypotheses; and, it was demonstrated that flowing conditions and/or galvanic connections are not always necessary to initiate or sustain meringue dezincification.
