Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the city of Camarillo, California, and a pilot project to identify a treatmentprocess that will make the aquifer usable, thus creating a reliable, local, cost-effective watersupply for the city of Camarillo. The pilot approach included evaluating pretreatment processes, nanofiltration (NF)/ reverse osmosis (RO) optimization and confirmationtesting, and taking advantage of the difference inoxidation rates between iron andmanganese when air is used foroxidation. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: aeration + media filtration effectivelyremoved iron with 6 min contact time; complete oxidation achievable with 1 mincontact time at pH 8, but pH adjustment notpractical due to high hardness in sourcewater; aeration + microfiltration far less effective; no Mn oxidation during initial testingperiods, however, subsequent testingshowed partial oxidation accelerated byMnOsub2/sub in media; ultimately, aeration + filtration pretreatmentwas not recommended for full scale facility. Includes table, figures.
