Full Description

This paper presents beneficial reuse of reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate produced bymembrane systems used for wastewater reuse and brackish groundwater desalination.RO concentrate could be as much as 25% of the feed stream for wastewater reuseapplications and brackish groundwater desalination, and represents a polluting stream. Theprimary objective of this study was to evaluate innovative technology that could be usedto transform RO concentrate into beneficial products. Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis(BMED) for conversion of RO concentrates into mixed acids and bases. The resultssuggest that mixed acids and bases of strengths up to 0.2 N could be produced using theBMED process. Includes 14 references, tables, figures.
