Full Description

The presence of pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, personal care products, andmicropollutants in drinking water sources has led many drinking water treatment plants toconsider additional barriers of treatment. One of these barriers shown to be successful atreducing the concentrations of these compounds is ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and advancedoxidation using UV and hydrogen peroxide (Hsub2/subOsub2/sub) to produce hydroxyl radicals. This paper discusses experiments performed to elucidate the change in regulated disinfection byproductformation after UV and UV/Hsub2/subOsub2/sub processes followed by the application of free chlorine toquench the peroxide and provide a residual disinfectant. Includes 8 references, table, figures.
