Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the drivers for considering alternative disinfection methods, and the California Code of Regulations, Title 22 on Approved Disinfection Technologies. A project at a northern California utility is presented, with the project goal ofselecting the most suitable disinfection technologythrough a site-specific alternatives analysis. Disinfection technology criteria included:small footprint;meet or exceed 5-log removal of poliovirus;minimal operator attention;Title 22 approved;proven performance; and, maintain pressure head from membranes. Technologies selected for evaluation included:in-vessel MP UV Disinfection (Aquionics);HiPOx System (Applied Process Technology); and, pasteurization (Pasteurization Technology Group). An evaluation summary of the three technologies is presented, along with life cycle cost comparisons. Conclusions indicate: site specific alternatives analysis is key; UV, ozone, and pasteurization - Title 22 approved, proven disinfectants for various applications; and, costs are similar, though site-specific issues are critical. Includes table, figures.
