Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the statement of problem that included: more than 90% of roughly 55,000 CWSsserve fewer than 10,000 people; and,the treatment for these systems isbecoming more complex, resulting inresiduals that are difficult to handle. The strategy of residuals management includes the following:what are the contaminants of concern; how can these contaminants be removed;what type and quantity of residual isproduced for each system; and,how can this residual be disposed of? Project challenge was to provide design and maintenanceinformation in a format that will be usefulto small system operators, and to encourage the choice of treatmentbased on the residual produced. Radionuclide residuals treatment processes are listed, along with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency disposal options, arsenic residuals, ion exchange/adsorption, and minimizing backwash volume. Includes tables, figures.
