Full Description

This powerpoint presentation presents a study to develop a protocol for creating a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model that simulates the ultraviolet- (UV-) initiated advanced oxidation process, and identifies critical and non-critical model criteria that need to be addressed during the development and use of such a model. UV/AOP CFD models are presented, along with CFD protocol for UV-initiated advanced oxidation. Presentation summary indicates that: CFD models can incorporate hydrodynamic and turbulence models, fluence rate distribution models, and chemical reaction mechanisms; reactor design factors and water quality factors can be combined to streamline design and to achieve more cost-effective and efficient UV/AOP systems; and, numerical tools are important as more emerging contaminants are identified in drinking water supplies.
