Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a brief overview of Intermediate Concentrate ChemicalStabilization (ICCS), and an ICCS pilot testing program by the City of Phoenix, Arizona,on brackish surface water and groundwater. Pilot testing chemical dosage is presented, along with a revised natural organic matter (NOM) fractionation procedure that wasdeveloped in an attempt to address silicadistribution. The detection of amino acids usingFTIR in scraped material indicatesbiological activities, and a large microbial population wasobserved on the membrane surface. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and DNAsequencing further identified bacteria species. Hypothetically, the colloidal silicates insurface water caused fouling andpromoted biological growth. Includes tables, figures.
